My Heart… Cupped in My Hand
Love was a child's dream, disintegrated
resigned to knowing, a soul is not mated
One dark desert night, the dream resurrected,
and a sleeping heart woke unprotected
Didn't want to feel, as every sweet scene
shattered the walls built hasty between
Didn't want the taste of bliss deep inside,
a hunger that couldn't be satisfied
Now here I stand, and this is my heart…
cupped in my hand, broken apart
Half of a soul, wakened with a gasp
seeing it can be whole, but unable to grasp
Slightly obscene, the irony, razor-sharp,
the childish dream was a truth of the heart
For all that it hurts, can't return to sleep,
a beating heart that wants a love to keep
So I guess here I stand, soul missing a half
Broken heart in my hand, but old dreams intact
