What Felt Like Ours
Wandering through this world
we found what felt like ours
Now I watch it fade
and return
only to fade again
My heart asks, wasn’t it us?
who said
who felt
who were
I hold it like handfuls of sand
trying to keep what won’t stay
Time takes it
grain by grain
Don’t tell me about cycles and flow
Tell me why I have to watch it go
and still know my heart knows yours
Even now, something in you shifts
when I say your name
You don’t reach out
but I see it there
a hesitation
I could tell you a story of when we were young
And you wouldn’t know it, like it was never yours
But
we said
we felt
we were
So I will hold it
a little longer
for both of us
